2020/2021 Premier League season would have been better for Manchester United if they had a formidable center defense. The team seems to have learned this weakness and they are trying to avoid the same mistakes come 2021/2022 season. The Old Trafford team is on a hiring spree where they are shopping for strong midfielders to strengthen the department. Already they have clinched a deal with Jadon Sancho, a Borrusia Dortmund player who is set to join the team this summer. Also, they are eyeing the teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga, the French midfielder among other upcoming stars. United hopes to clinch the deal
The meeting with Eduardo Camavinga’s agents is scheduled for next week, where the Red Devils are hoping for the talks of acquiring the French youngster will be in earnest. Manchester United is keen on buying the player once they are done with the deal for Sancho. It is not only the Red Devils who are eyeing the midfielder, Real Madrid, PSG, and other European teams want to have the Camvinga play for their side come the next season.
The big winners in this competition will be Rennes, his current club; they are set to cash in on a handsome asset before he becomes a free agent in the next few months. United does not want to miss out on this transfer; last summer they were hunting for Jude Bellingham but now they have a chance to get a central midfielder who will work closely with Greenwood and Sancho to take the midfield department to the level they need.
Jonathan Barnett, Camavinga’s agent reveals that they have several offers on the table and they are good. He adds that they are in no rush to close any of them but when the right time comes, the best will take the player home. Given his age, Camavinga is set to put a spirited fight for the team that he joins. He has a bright future and that is what his agent is focused on, seeing him rise to be the best midfielder of our lifetime. For his agency what matters most is a chance to shine and develop his career further, whoever promises this regardless of the offer will get the player.
High profile midfielder and Pogba question
Camavinga is on his last year of the Rennes contract and Manchester United is determined to bring in the current highest profile as they seek to boost their performance in the next season. The six feet tall Frenchman is linked as a replacement of Paul Pogba both in the short and long term. Some funny comments have been made on social media where fans are wondering why Pogba does not tear up at Old Trafford, the way he is doing at Euro Cup 2020. He may be headed for PSG when his contract ends next summer. While United may not allow him to leave without a replacement, he may have started packing upon seeing these comments.
The price tag may be what will favor the United as it is likely to put off other contenders. Also, the fact that Pogba is interested in moving to PSG adds on the United’s chances of sealing the deal with the young and promising midfielder. PSG, who have also shown an interest in Camavinga may not be going for a deal once they are assured of Pogba’s entrance into the club. Manchester side would gladly release Pogba once the prospects of getting an equally strong and promising midfielder are secured.
The young Frenchman who has been pushing towards senior squad has proven himself as a top-flight making him the best replacement for Pogba both in the short and long term.
There are arguments that the player cannot match Pogba’s prowess. These sentiments are based on the playing style. They argue that he may be an excellent passer as well as good at using his body to protect passes; however, there is something about him that puts him behind the current united star boy Pogba.
While this may be the case, the player is still young, and the fact that some have seen him as almost equal to Pogba, the boy has some talent to offer any team that will seek to develop his skills. His strong defensive tactics, tackling and superior reading of the game make him a big asset. Also, his tenacity will prove essential for the Red Devils as they seek to dominate the leagues both nationally and regionally.
Camavanga has a similar skill set with Jude Bellingham, a midfielder that United was interested in but opted out. They are similar in the following ways
- Bellingham who wears jersey number 22 can play in position 4, 8 or 10; Camavinga has similar versatility.
- The two players dominate the midfield and at the same time balance the base to build a strong attack
- They are both young and promising players with equally similar prowess
This means that opting out of the Bellingham deal, they were eyeing for similar talent while giving Pogba a chance to shine. Pogba’s replacement may have been found but the big question is whether he will be leaving Manchester United. Some argue that Camavanga may be coming in to supplement the efforts of Pogba, where they will be working together to form a strong midfield, a position that finely balances and builds a strong attack. For now, all we can do is wait and see things unfold.
